"I belong to my beloved, and my beloved is mine.."
Song of Songs 6:3
Janet Mariño
Anyone who’s ever taken a trip knows what a layover is. Sometimes it's long hours of waiting, full of discomfort, and sometimes it's a quick sprint to catch the next flight. We either expect them or they catch us by surprise — but they’re always part of the journey.
Our life is a journey, and God has already prepared the itinerary. As we walk with Him, we’ll go through many layovers. Some will help us connect with others, some will give us time to breathe and regain strength, and some will prepare us for what’s coming next.
Each one is perfectly timed. They help us get ready to board the next flight and keep moving toward the purpose God has for us.
God knows exactly when and where we need to pause, and He also knows why. What matters is that we learn to recognize those moments — moments to rest, to be still, to prepare. Pausing doesn’t mean quitting. It means listening and trusting.
A few months ago, I felt tired and frustrated. The thought of stopping — even just taking a break from writing — made me feel guilty. But I had a real talk with my Father. I told Him how I was feeling (even though He already knew), and I chose to pause.
I realized we needed that pause — Him and me. We needed to rekindle the love. That love that doesn’t demand or rush, but lets you rest and trust.
My first love — Jesus — invited me to be still. He reminded me that His love isn’t about what I do, but who I am. I needed to feel His love in a deeper, more tender way. The kind of love that gives you flowers and makes them look brand new. That sings to you and invites you to sit and share a drink with Him.
I’m so glad I paused. I took that moment of grace to pause — to rest, to enjoy Him, to enjoy myself, to enjoy us. And while I’m still in the process, I’m living a new season. A season full of joy, peace… and love. I’m in love.
Maybe you’ve missed a flight. Or maybe you’re in a layover that doesn’t make sense yet. This might be your moment of grace. A time to believe again, to breathe, to receive love, and to start fresh.
Take a deep breath. Rest. Love. Begin again.
